Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 28, 2026

Fluency LLC ("Fluency," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Fluency mobile application available on iOS and Android (the "App") and the website at getfluencyapp.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email. Google also shares your profile photo. Apple lets you use a private relay email and hide your name. Country is added to your profile based on your phone's locale. You can update your name, username, avatar, bio, and country at any time.

Profile visibility. Profiles are public by default. This means your username, name, avatar, bio, country, active days, top languages, and XP are visible on leaderboards and your profile page. You can switch to a private profile at any time in settings. Due to caching, your profile may still appear briefly on leaderboards after switching to private.

Learning data. The App stores your saved vocabulary (flashcards), reading history, favorites, and daily activity dates. This data is kept primarily on your device and synced to our servers so it's available if you switch devices.

Device & usage information. We collect your device's locale (to suggest a default country), timezone, and general usage events such as which screens you visit and which content you open. We do not collect precise location data.

Crash & performance data. We use error-tracking tools that may collect technical details like your device model, OS version, and IP address when a crash or error occurs. This data is used solely to diagnose issues and improve app stability.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
  • Sync your learning progress across devices
  • Understand how people use the App so we can make it better
  • Detect, diagnose, and fix crashes and technical problems
  • Communicate with you about your account if needed

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal data to target ads to you. The App may include advertisements and optional paid subscriptions, but your personal learning data is never shared with advertisers.

3. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the App:

  • Supabase — authentication and cloud database for syncing your data
  • Google Firebase Analytics — anonymous usage analytics to understand how people use the App
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting to keep the App stable
  • Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In — secure authentication

These services may process data according to their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum information necessary for them to function.

4. Data Storage & Security

Most of your learning data is stored locally on your device in a private database. When synced, your data is transmitted securely to our cloud servers hosted by Supabase. We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure authentication tokens.

While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. Our cloud infrastructure is operated by third-party providers with their own security practices. We are not responsible for security incidents or data breaches that occur at the infrastructure level outside our direct control.

5. Children's Privacy

Fluency is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

The App includes a "Kids Mode" feature that allows a parent or guardian to create child profiles under their own account. When a child profile is active, all analytics and crash-reporting data collection is disabled, and activity data stays on the device only — it is not synced to our servers. Child profiles are not eligible for leaderboards, meaning they cannot view or appear on leaderboards.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

6. Your Choices & Rights

Profile visibility. Your profile is public by default. You can switch it to private in the App's settings, which hides you from leaderboards and prevents other users from viewing your profile.

Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data directly from within the App. Once deleted, your data is permanently removed from our servers.

Manage child profiles. Parents can create, edit, or remove child profiles at any time from the App's settings.

If you're located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. Contact us to exercise these rights.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data from our servers. Some anonymized, aggregated data (such as total user counts) may be retained for analytical purposes.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes — such as new categories of data collection or sharing data with new third parties — we'll also notify you through an in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
